Unbeatable Location: The Golden Triangle
Before talking about anything else we have to discuss location. The Business Inn and Suites Ottawa isn’t in Downtown Ottawa. In my mind, it’s in an even better location: the Golden Triangle.
The Golden Triangle borders Downtown Ottawa, Centretown, and the Rideau Canal. You’re still within walking distance to all the main tourist attractions (like Parliament Hill). But now, you also have a more local stay in Ottawa.
You’re only a few blocks away from a peaceful walk along the canal, and you’re right on the corner of Elgin Street. Elgin is home to countless cute cafes and local shops! You won’t have to walk far for anything.

Let’s Talk About This Ottawa Hotel…
Every Type of Room Available
There are eight types of rooms to choose from at the Business Inn and Suites Ottawa: Mini, pet friendly mini, economy, studio, executive, pet friendly executive, signature, and two beds.
They range from fitting anywhere from 1 to 6 people.
The size of the room practically doubles from the mini room at 350 ft2 to 700 ft2 for the signature suite (and that doesn’t include the addition of the balcony for the signature suite!).
The Signature Suite @ The Business Inn And Suites Ottawa
We booked the Signature Suite and would highly recommend this room. It’s a tad more expensive than booking a Mini Room but it’s worth it. The amount of space you get more than doubles, but it isn’t twice the price.
The Signature Suite at the Business Inn gives you a massive kitchen with eating area (that’s bigger than my kitchen back home!) and a separate a dining room.
There’s also a home office in every suite equipped with a desktop computer and printer! There’s a den with a big screen TV and couch and then a completely separate bedroom with another TV! That’s two TVs in one hotel room!

I didn’t even mention the balcony yet!
Some suites also come with a massive balcony. It’s always nice to be able to get some fresh air, especially in the summer time.
The only problem was that our balcony didn’t have any patio furniture, so we couldn’t really sit outside. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could request some though.
The room also had a lot of windows which made it very bright and enjoyable to sit inside as well.
Ideal For Longer Stays & Families
Did I already mention that The Business Inn and Suites comes with a full kitchen? The suites can also sleep 6 people as the couches are pull outs and you can also request a cot. This makes it both an idea hotel in Ottawa for longer stays and suitable for families.
The kitchen makes it so you don’t have to eat out every meal (which can really add up as a family). You also have more than enough space for everyone to sleep and not be on top of each other.
People Cost Extra But Pets Don’t…
Although the space is great for families, the extra people do come at a cost… If you’re more than two guests, any additional guest is an extra $10 per night. I do understand that it does cost more if more people are staying in the room but it is something to look out for.
Pets, however, don’t cost extra in one of their pet-friendly rooms. This is a very nice perk if you’re bringing your furry friend along. It can often cost quite a bit extra to bring them.

Appreciate The Amenities
Honestly, I’ve stayed at nicer hotels before but these were some of the best hotel amenities I’ve had. Who knew that providing something as simple as soft toilet paper could make a difference!
They give you the basic hotel amenities, like shampoo, soap, conditioner. It’s all Neutrogena (which is the same brand that Hilton gives you). Plus, if you are there for a longer stay, every floor has a cabinet with extra amenities to restock.
They also provide some extra business amenities that I actually really appreciated. For one, the room came with a steamer. This made me realize that every hotel room should come with this. Your clothes are always wrinkly after being packed in a suitcase (no matter how well you pack).
Every suite in The Business Inn and Suites Ottawa comes equipped with a full kitchen. That means it comes with a full sized refrigerator, oven and stove, a coffee grinder and brewer, kettle, a microwave, numerous pots and pans, dishes, cutlery, baking dishes and more… etc. There’s also free coffee and tea!
Breakfast Is Included!
I always love booking a hotel that offers free breakfast. It’s just one less meal that you have to worry about. On vacation you want to start your day as quick as possible, you don’t want to be walking around hungry looking for breakfast.
I visited during COVID-19 so they weren’t able to serve their typical breakfast. Instead, guests were able to choose from select breakfast items. They still offered a hot breakfast sandwich and cold breakfast options (like cereal).
I think normally there’s a dining room across the hall with tables. During COVID-19 guests would bring their breakfast plates back up to their room to eat. All around it was a more basic breakfast but it did the job of filling me up and getting me out to explore!
Parking Costs Extra
As with most hotels when staying in downtown Ottawa, parking does cost extra. The Business Inn and Suites Ottawa offers both indoor and outdoor parking options for an extra cost.
Because you aren’t in Downtown Ottawa, there is a bit more street parking that you may be able to find.
The hotel is in a permit area though, so it won’t be easy to find a free spot.
If you’re visiting Ottawa to tour, you won’t need your car once you’re there. As I said, everything is in walking distance to the hotel.
Could Benefit From Updates!
The Business Inn & Suites is appealing to a different clientele – businessmen. With this in mind, it’s a very basic hotel. Do not expect glitz and glam when booking a stay in Ottawa. The Business Inn and Suites Ottawa feels like you’re in a very outdated hotel from the 80s.
The Suites have dark green carpets, the kitchen has old tiling and cabinets, and the ceiling has a an art-deco pattern from the 20s. Our suite had a brown suede couch that I think my grandmother owned. The lobby and hallways weren’t much better either.
It’s all just lacking in updates. But I’m also not sure if it’s really old or just the look they’re going for.

But It’s Still Very Clean & Comfortable
Just because it’s out of date in terms of styling, it didn’t feel dirty and old. In fact it was quite the opposite. I felt very clean and comfortable staying at The Business Inn in Ottawa. I didn’t see any stains in our room. The linen was fresh and clean. The carpet and couch, although both VERY outdated, didn’t feel all that old.
The bed was also really comfortable. The pillows were great and honestly, I had one of the best sleeps I’ve ever had in a hotel! For me, as long as it’s clean, the look matters less! If you don’t let the out of date style get to you, you’ll have a very nice stay at the Business Inn and Suites hotel in Ottawa.
What’s The Cancellation Policy?
The Business Inn and Suites has a very flexible cancellation policy. You can cancel your booking up to 24 hours before your stay. If you cancel anytime after that, you are only responsible for the first night.

Where to Stay In Ottawa: Other Hotel Recommendations
If you’re looking for a hotel stay unique to Ottawa, there’s no better place than the Fairmont Château Laurier or Lord Elgin Hotel. These are going to cost you though! A bit more reasonable and closer to Downtown Ottawa is The Westin.
I’ve stayed at the Westin before and love it! It’s more expensive than the Business Inn but definitely cheaper than the Fairmont.
The location is also unbeatable, with an entrance in the Rideau Centre, and minutes away from Byward Market.
