Why is a trip to New York City always a debate between breaking the bank to stay in the Manhattan and saving money but sacrificing convenience in a hotel in New Jersey? Why isn’t there a middle ground? Hilton Garden Inn New York Manhattan Midtown East might just be the place you’ve been looking for.
The Hilton Garden Inn New York is THE place to stay in Manhattan. It’s not in the heart of Time Square, but it’s also really not that far and the price different is immense.

Location
At least you’re in Manhattan! So you aren’t in Time Square but at least you’re on the Island and not staying in Jersey right!?
I actually really like the location in Midtown East. It’s a bit more on the local side of New York so it’s WAY less touristy. But that doesn’t mean you aren’t still close to some of the must-sees in New York.

You’re about a 20 minute walk to Central Park (near the Zoo), and Times Square. You’re also 10 minutes to the Chrysler Building and the Manhattan Gondola which takes you to Roosevelt Island.
Plus, you’re never really that far from anything because the closest Subway station (Lexington Av/53 St) is literally a 1 minute walk.
Hilton Garden Inn New York Amenities
Can’t complain about the amenities at the Hilton Garden Inn New York either – it had all the usual Hilton amenities.
There’s a restaurant downstairs that is very convenient for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. But of course this is NY so you have delicious food and coffee at your fingertips! There’s a fitness centre, meeting rooms …etc. The only amenity it didn’t have was a pool.

It’s Pet Friendly
Pets are also very much allowed which is always nice to be able to bring our furry friends along with us – and we actually had out cat with us when we stayed there!
The room was pretty pet friendly as well – the only issue was underneath the bed. It was completely accessible – not great for our friends that like to hide…
Also, it’s either one of the cheapest pet friendly hotels or the most expensive. The cost to bring your pet varies from hotel to hotel. Hilton Garden Inn New York Manhattan Midtown East charges a fixed rate for your entire stay. So if you’re only staying one night, it’s quite expensive, but if you’re staying the week, it becomes a lot more reasonable to bring your pet along.

Parking At The Hilton Garden Inn New York Manhattan Midtown East
The hotel offers parking although it also comes with a few downfalls…
They have a parking lot around the corner from the hotel and you can park there for a small fee (we payed $35 USD/ night). I have to admit, the fee is very reasonable per night compared to most hotels. But, because it isn’t in the hotel you have to unload your car, drive to the lot, and then walk back…
The other annoyance is that there can be a build up of people when you check out, so expect to wait for your car!
Using The Hilton Honours App
But probably one of my favourite parts about booking our stay at the Hilton Garden Inn New York is the use of the Hilton Honours App. This is where you can book your room, check in, check out, and access your digital key.
It was especially a perk during COVID when you wanted to interact as little as possible with people.
Hilton Midtown New York Review Of The Room
The room at Hilton Garden Inn is small but mighty. Honestly it has everything you need in a hotel room: bed, desk, sitting area, and bathroom.
There isn’t a lot of extra space in the room – it’s small! So you don’t have a couch it’s simply a lounge chair with a side table. But the bed was in front of the TV anyway so you can watch TV from bed (which is the best part about staying in a hotel anyway…right?).
The bathroom was also surprisingly a decent size compared to the room. There’s nothing worse than a small bathroom.

Staff Friendliness
From our short interaction with the staff they were always very helpful and nice.
We actually spoke to them through the app before we even checked in to the hotel. We were curious about getting an early check-in and they were nothing but helpful trying to find us the best room to fit our needs that was also ready for us to check in when we arrived!
Budget Hotels New York City: The Price & Value For Money
For Manhattan prices and the location – this is hotel is steal in my mind! It obviously isn’t the cheapest hotel in the city, but for quality, cleanliness and comfort it’s worth it. I’d say the value for money is a 10/10!
