Where To Stay In Quebec City?
Even though Quebec City itself is quite small, there are actually three areas you could stay in: in Old Town Quebec City, just outside the city walls, and in Saint-Roch (my personal favourite!).
I’ve stayed in each area, and they each come with their own sets of perks and costs!
Old Town Quebec City
The main part of Quebec City to stay in is Old Town.
Old Town is within the old city walls and it’s divided into two parts: Upper Town and Lower Town.
There really isn’t a huge different between the two, just that you’ll need to walk up or down stairs or take the funicular to get to the other part of town. But they’re within minutes of each other.
Just know that Old Town is the heart of Quebec City, so you will be paying a premium for Old Quebec City hotels.

Stay Outside The City Walls: Saint-Jean-Baptiste
Alternatively, you can look at staying just outside the city walls in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste neighbourhood.
There are popular hotels along Bd René Lévesque and Grand Allée.
You’re still within walking distance to all the top attractions in Quebec City (and might even be closer to others, like the Plains of Abraham). But because you’re outside Old Town, you may be able to find better deals on a hotel here.
This is also where the high rise hotel brands are, like the Hilton, Delta…etc.

Stay In A Local Quebec City Neighbourhood: Saint-Roch
Another option for hotels in Quebec City is to stay in the Saint-Roch neighbourhood.
Saint-Roch is about a 20 minute walk to Old Town Quebec but offers a much more local stay.
I would recommend staying here if you’ve already visited Quebec City before. You’ll see real Quebec in Saint-Roch, offering you a much more local experience.
You’ll want to stay on Boulevard Charest E or Saint-Joseph.

Top 10 Hotels In Quebec City For Every Budget
I found the top 10 hotels in Quebec City for every budget based on your needs.
So, everyone can enjoy the wonders of this magical city!
Best Old Quebec City Hotels
1. The Iconic Place To Stay: Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac
Why not stay at the most photographed building in Quebec City: The Fairmont Chateau Frontenac?
This is the quintessential hotel to stay at in Quebec City – but it’s also the priciest!
You cannot get a better location than this though! You’re practically staying on the boardwalk.
You’ll want to try to book this hotel during low season for the best price if you are interested in staying here.
2. The Best Location & Price: Hotel Clarendon
The Hotel Clarendon is the go-to hotel for my parents in Quebec City, they’ve now stayed here twice!
You can’t get a better location than the Clarendon Hotel in the heart of Old Quebec.
It is on the pricier side but it’s still more reasonable than the Chateau Frontenac and it’s in a very similar location.
Plus the rooms were recently updated!
3. Best Budget Friendly Hotel In Old Town: Au Petit Hotel
If you want to stay in Old Town without breaking the bank, Au Petit Hotel is the place for you.
It has all the charm of a boutique hotel in Quebec City, in an old building on a quaint (almost hidden) street.
What’s the catch? The rooms are quite small… like really small! But it does have everything you need.
It was perfect for my one night stay in Quebec City, I don’t know if I would stay here more than two nights though!

4. Best Quebec City Hotels: Auberge Saint-Antoine
If you want to feel pampered, Auberge Saint-Antoine is ultimate place to stay for a romantic weekend getaway in Quebec City.
This is THE BEST luxury boutique hotel in Quebec City.
Located in Lower Town, you’re across the street from a park, overlooking the Saint Lawrence River.
And you’re minutes from local shops and restaurants along Petit Champlain.
5. Top Rated: Le Priori
Le Priori is one of the top rated Old Quebec City hotels in the Old Port.
It’s on one of my favourites streets in Quebec City, Rue du Sault-au-Matelot, quieter than most tourist filled streets but still in the heart of the Old town.
Plus, you’ll be staying in a heritage building from 1734!
6. Unique Stay At A Monastery In Old Quebec
You won’t get a more unique Old Quebec City hotel than the Monastère des Augustines.
A stay at the monastery is all about prioritizing health and wellness. There aren’t any phones or TVs in the rooms – so you can fully disconnect!
You can choose from daily programming at the monastery and spa packages or tour Old Quebec (you’re still in the heart of the city after all!).
Quebec City Hotels Just Outside The City Walls: Saint-Jean-Baptiste
7. Hilton Hotel
Surprisingly, the Quebec City Hilton is not too expensive because it isn’t actually in the Old Town. But you’re maybe a five-minute walk to the Old City walls.
The best part about staying at the Hilton? You can actually get a view of the Old City from your room or from the rooftop pool (yup – a rooftop pool!).
The Delta Hotel is also in the same area.
Quebec City Hotels In Saint-Roch
8. St-Roch Hotel: Hotel Royal William
For a very affordable nightly rate, stay in the trending neighbourhood of Quebec City: Saint Roch.
You’re still within walking distance to Old Quebec, but now you’re a bit more local.
Royal William offers a large room, indoor parking, and is around the corner from the trendiest bars and restaurants on Saint-Joseph.
Other Hotels In Quebec City For Unique Stays
9. Best For Long Term Stays: Les Lofts
If you want more of an apartment in Quebec City, stay in one of the many Loft locations – I swear, they’re everywhere!
You have your pick of locations whether you’re looking to stay in Old Town, the Old Port, or Saint Roch.
They’re beautifully renovated modern apartments – making them the perfect choice for longer stays.
See Top Rated Lofts on Booking.com:
Les Lofts Champlain (Lower Town)
Les Lofts Ste-Anne (Upper Town)
Les Lofts St-Pierre (Old Port)
Les Lofts St. Joseph (Saint Roch)
Les Lofts de la Gare (in the train station)
10. Unique Stay: Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations in Wendake
An important part of Quebec City is the Huron-Wendat first nations community just outside the city (about 20 minutes away by car).
Stay in a first nations hotel to feel closer to this aspect of Quebec history, and support the local Huron-Wendat today.
They have a few locations throughout the city, but if you can, head to Wendake village to stay in their flagship hotel (and maybe even in a long house for the night!).
