Lavender is in bloom in Montreal between June and September.

Why Visit Québec Lavender Fields?

Lavender fields are BEAUTIFUL and so relaxing. The lush purple bushes with country landscape, and the fresh scent of flowers! Can it really get better than that!?

Visiting Québec lavender fields is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful summer weather. It’s a great activity to do with the family or friends, and to really spend the day outside.

I always like to bring my photography gear as the lavender fields are the ultimate subject to photograph. The lavender also attracts the bees, so I always try to capture them in action!

Champs De Rêve Dream Gardens (Small But Close!)

If you don’t want to go too far off the Island of Montreal, Champs de Rêve is the perfect place to go. It’s just off the Island in Vaudreuil, so it’s only a 40 minute drive. This makes visiting Champs de Rêve very doable in even a half day trip from Montreal.

There is an entrance fee to see the lavender farm at Champs de Rêve but there’s a lot that’s included with your ticket.

Although they say the fields are the largest in Montreal, I think that’s just because they’re also the only ones. They’re quite a bit smaller than any of the other three on this lavender farm Montreal list.

When we visited though, we were one of the only ones in the park which was a breath of fresh air (literally!) from the other Quebec lavender fields we visited. We had the fields almost entirely to ourselves.

At The Fields – Dream Gardens

The lavender fields at Champs de Rêve are included in their Dream Gardens.

So you get so much more than just lavender fields when you come here! Just to get to the lavender farm, you have to walk through an INCREDIBLE flower sculpture garden. You’ll see all different types of animals and beautiful scenes made out of grass and flowers.

There’s also a mini labyrinth to get lost in! And if you plan your visit perfectly, there’s also sunflower field to enjoy (sunflowers are in full bloom in August, so if you visit at the end of July you might be able to catch both the lavender and sunflowers)!

Extra! Exploring The Surrounding Area (Vaudreuil & Hudson)

If you want to make visiting the Champs de Rêve into more of a full day activity, there’s a lot to do in the area as well.

If you’re looking for a place for lunch, you have to go to the Château Vaudreuil to eat at Villa Elina. Just be sure to make a reservation in advance.

A bit further (but not too far) from Champs de Rêve is the town of Hudson. Hudson has even more restaurant options if you’re looking for a more casual dining experience (my favourite is the Willow Inn).

If you want another outdoor activity, head to Jack Layton Park to walk along the water. Or head to The Greenwood Centre for a bit of history, antique shopping, and tea – read my full review here!

Maison Lavande: Most Popular Lavender Field Montreal

In St. Eustache, Maison Lavande is only 45 minutes away from Montreal (give or take a bit more for traffic) and it’s huge!

The owners of Maison Lavande actually lived in Provence for several years, so they know lavender. When they came back to Québec, they decided to grow their own lavender fields. They actually grow three different types of lavender here.

So not only is it the biggest lavender field Montreal, but it’s also the most popular one to visit.

There is an entrance fee to see the fields, you can see updated prices here.

P.S. during low season (the month of August) entry is actually free! Keep in mind that the fields also won’t be looking their best, but it can still be a nice place for a picnic!

The Fields Are Looking Worse For The Wear

When we visited in mid July, the lavender fields at Maison Lavande St Eustache were already looking quite a bit battered.

From far, the colour is vibrant and the plants look luscious. But as soon as you get up close, you’ll notice a lot of empty patches, and some of the plants aren’t looking too good.

I imagine this is just due to the high amount of people that visit every summer and don’t respect the fields. So if you are interested in visiting Maison Lavande, I’d recommend visiting on one of the first weekends they’re open.

What To Do At Maison Lavande Near Montreal

Maison Lavande St Eustache has three lavender field areas. The main field is in the front, another one off to the side, and then the largest field is in the back… but those are the worst to look at.

At the fields, there’s ice cream and a boutique selling their lavender products.

They had a few signs set up around the field which provided some information about the lavender planted and the distillation process to turn it into essential oils. There’s also a little rooster coop, and a very short walking path.

They encourage you to spend the afternoon at the fields with a picnic lunch… the only problem is that there isn’t a lot of good locations to sit.

The main field is overpopulated, the side field doesn’t have a lot of shade, and the two large fields in the back aren’t well kept… kind of a shame.

Exploring Around Maison Lavande St Eustache Area

The best quality of visiting Maison Lavande (besides it being so close to the city) is that there’s quite a bit to do in the area.

Unlike the other lavender fields around Montreal, which are a bit in the middle of nowhere, Maison Lavande is surrounded by tons of things to do.

A bit past the fields is Intermiel, my favourite local honey. They offer guided tours, a farm to explore, and tasters of their honey! Plan your visit here.

There’s also no shortage of Cabane a Sucres (Sugar Shacks) to visit in St. Eustache, like Lalande and Au Pied du Cochons.

If you want to relax on a shaded terrace after being outside all day with a refreshing drink, you have your choice of cidreries and wineries to visit as well. We like Cidrerie LaFrance for cider and Vignoble Rivière du Chêne for wine.

If you’re visiting with kids, next door to Maison Lavande, you’ll also find the Exoterium to see some reptiles.

Plus, you can also visit the town of St. Eustache for some shopping.

If you go later in the day, you can stay for a drive in movie, check showtimes here!

Bleu Lavande: Far But Worth It!

In Magog Québec (in the Eastern Townships) is Bleu Lavande – my favourite lavender field near Montreal.

Although it’s the farthest lavender field Montreal, about a 2 hour drive away (expect traffic!) it’s well worth it! I would plan to spend the entire day visiting Bleu Lavande and the surrounding area.

The lavender blooms a tad later in the season here, from mid-July until September. The fields used to be free to visit, but as the site became more popular you now need a ticket.

But your ticket also includes a guided tour of the lavender fields, which is a unique activity to Bleu Lavande Magog.

P.S. Book a guided tour to the Eastern Townships to discover more of this beautiful region in Quebec. The tour takes you to the best small towns, like Magog and North Hatley.

What To Do At Bleu Lavande Magog?

There’s so much land to explore at Bleu Lavande Magog! When we visited, there were quite a few people, but it never felt over crowded. There’s enough space for everyone to set up a picnic and you don’t have to be on top of your neighbour.

They have three fields that you can wander through and enjoy – all perfectly kept. You’re also surrounded by mountains here, it’s in the country (plus, the drive out there isn’t too bad on your eyes either!).

P.S. don’t forget to bring a picnic blanket to enjoy the ultimate picnic at Bleu Lavande Magog. Check out this one from Amazon.

Lavender also attracts bees, and there’s no shortage of them buzzing through these fields! It’s perfect for photographers who love capturing nature (p.s. I don’t know why we barely saw any bees at Maison Lavande in St Eustache).

They also encourage you to pack a picnic lunch and relax in their fields for the day. If you don’t have time to pack a lunch though, they do have a bistro and invite a different food truck up every weekend!

They also have yoga at the fields and massage therapy you can sign up for.

What’s In The Area: Exploring Magog & The Eastern Townships

Due to the driving distance from Montreal, visiting the lavender fields at Bleu Lavande Magog will most likely be your main attraction for the day – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

If you do have some extra energy to explore the area, head into Magog. You can walk through the town, or stop here for lunch or supper before heading back to Montreal.

There’s a beach with all sorts of water sports and there’s even bike path if you bring your bike!

Passion Lavande Free Montreal Lavender Fields

Passion Lavande is also about an hour an a half away from Montreal (maybe longer with traffic). It’s in Saint-Sévère (p.s. not to be confused with the popular destination Saint-Sauveur up north).

These are now the only free lavender fields to visit from Montreal!

Full disclosure, we actually visited Passion Lavande for the sunflowers at the end of August so didn’t get to see this lavender fields themselves in full bloom.

sunflowers-at-passion-lavande
Sunflower fields at Passion Lavande

What To Do At Passion Lavande

Passion Lavande is offers both lavender and sunflower fields (at different times during the summer).

Passion Lavande has the least to do at the fields themselves. There’s a boutique to buy their essential oils and handmade soaps, and they also sell delicious artisanal lavender popsicles (not to be missed!).

Normally there’s a terrace where they also serve drinks (it was closed when we went during COVID-19).

Similar to other Quebec lavender fields, Passion Lavande encourages you to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenery. There is a major downside with picnic lunches at Passion Lavande though: there’s hardly any shade to set up a good picnic.

When we went in mid August, the fields were also infested with bugs! We didn’t even feel comfortable setting up our picnic blanket on the ground so we ate standing up (I’ll admit, both of us are a tad squeamish when it comes to bugs…!).

But after that experience, I don’t know if we’d come back next year to see the lavender in bloom.

What’s In The Surrounding Area, Saint-Sévère

There is actually quite a bit to explore in St. Sévère and the neighbouring towns.

For one, you can shop at local store Rien ne se perd, tout se crée… (Nothing wasted, everything created).

If you’re into wineries, there are also a few in the area. The closest one to Passion Lavande is Domaine et Vins Gelinas, but there’s also Vignoble Prémont.

If you want more outdoor activities, head to Park Yamachiche for an outstanding walk through nature with incredible beach views at the end. If you’re a beach person, there’s no better place to dip your toes in the water! Read my guide to visiting Yamachiche.

Passion Lavande is also close to a waterfall, check out Parc des Chutes de Sainte-Ursule.

You can also drive a bit further to the city of Trois-Rivière (Three Rivers!), Québec.

My Lavender Field Montreal Must-Haves

There are a few essentials I always bring to fully enjoy a day at these beautiful lavender fields near Montreal!

For starters, you’ll want to bring a picnic blanket with you, like this one on Amazon. Enjoying a picnic lunch at the lavender fields near Montreal is one of the top activities to do but they don’t have enough picnic tables for everyone.

In case there isn’t an available shady spot, make sure you packed sunscreen (my go to is Neutrogena DryTouch on Amazon), and even a large floppy hat for style (get one on Amazon).

P.S. What Is Lavender Good For?

Lavender is used to make essential oil, potpourri, and can even be steeped in tea.

The main export for lavender is the essential oils that you get from it. It has so many uses, like rubbing it on your skin for reduced stress and anxiety.

You can also buy dried lavender in sachets. You can place these sachets under your pillow for better dreams, or in drawers for a fresh scent.

Definitely a worthwhile day trip! Just make sure you check that the flowers are in bloom before heading out there! The worst would be driving that long and there's nothing to see
