There are several cities in the Côte D’Azur but this day trip itinerary focuses on the top 3: Cannes, Nice, and Monaco. You could easily spend an entire day alone in each of these cities. But, if you only have a limited time, this road trip is the perfect way to get a taste of all of them.
Despite having a shaky past, Marseille has been on an upward trend since 2013. So if you know where to go, and plan your visit, the city has a lot to offer. So if you’re visiting Provence in the South of France, you should definitely add a day in Marseille to your itinerary.
I visited Marseille for one day while I was living in Aix-en-Provence. I was unsure what to expect from my visit because I’d heard a lot of mixed reviews about the city. The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a must-see on any South of France vacation. We almost weren’t going to visit the Pont du Gard, but in the end, it was the highlight of our trip. There’s more than just the aqueduct that you can spend a full day here, especially in the summertime!
The South of France in Provence has some of the better driving conditions that we’ve seen on vacation. The roads are wide enough to fit two cars, and they’re well paved. Plus as a bonus, you’re greeted with spectacular road trip views along the way. You can go from driving through mountains and gorges to lavender fields and wineries.
