What To Do For Halloween In Montreal: 13 Spooktacular Ideas [Updated 2023]

This is Halloween! This is Halloween! Halloween, Halloween, Halloween… (to the tune of This is Halloween from the Nightmare Before Christmas). Anyone else get that stuck in their head every Halloween?

There’s so much going on in Montreal in the fall and Halloween in Montreal is no exception. I don’t know about you, but it’s always a struggle figuring out what I’m going to do for Halloween (since I’ve unfortunately outgrown trick-or-treating).

To help you out, here are 13 spooktacular Montreal Halloween activities to keep you entertained all October long!

What To Do For Halloween In Montreal?

Choosing Your Halloween Costume

First things first! Choosing your Halloween costume is just as important as deciding on what you’re going to do in Montreal for Halloween.

Do you choose trendy costume for this year, dress up as your favourite celebrity, or just repeat your costume from last year?

Halloween costume stores in Montreal tend to pop up around mid September/ October so keep an eye out for those. Otherwise, there’s always a Halloween section at Village des Valeurs and most Party stores.

I tend to go the DIY route and pick up some materials at local thrift stores and put my sewing skills to the test (or well, my moms!).

Get ahead of the game so you have the most options to choose from for your costume (and you get first dibs between your friends!).

Top Things To Do In Montreal On Halloween

1. Visit A Haunted House: Malefycia

There was a time when finding the coolest haunted house on your block for trick or treating was the thing to do in Montreal on Halloween.

Now you can just drive to the biggest, baddest, spookiest house there is in the city.

And that’s Malefycia. It’s seriously horrifying. You have to sign a waiver before you go inside. If that’s not terrifying on its own, I don”t know what is!

They transform a space to another world and hire actors to spook the living daylight out of you.

2. Visit A Haunted Village: Drummondville

Why stop at just a haunted house when you can explore an entire haunted village?

This Montreal Halloween activity is an hour and a half drive from Montreal.

La Village D’Antan is a village that’s stuck in the past. It’s honestly also really nice to visit during any day of the year but on Halloween it transforms into the Haunted Village of Drummondville.

There’s a family section and a separate section for those looking for a real fright. They even have a themed restaurant where you can dine in horror before enter the haunted village.

3. Have A Real Good Time At Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (show) is a real Montreal Halloween classic. Seriously, you can’t call yourself a Montrealer if you’ve never attended this show at least once.

Over Halloween weekend, actors ad lib in front of the live screening of the The Rocky Horror Picture show movie

Get ready to dress up, sing along, and do the time wrap again for this truly unique Montreal Halloween activity!

4. Attend The Biggest Halloween Party In Montreal @ La Voûte

I’ve been to Halloween parties in Montreal before, and to be honest, they aren’t my cup of tea.

But this is the biggest Halloween party in Montreal. If I didn’t bring it up I’m sure I would have gotten some complaints.

La Voûte is a club set in an old bank vault from the 1920s. I mean if that’s not an epic backdrop for a halloween ball, I don’t know what is! Dress up in full costume and get ready for blood and scares!

5. Pick & Carve Your Own Pumpkin

Apple picking is a very popular fall activity in Montreal, but now you can also pick your own pumpkin.

There are a few pumpkin patches near Montreal to pick your own pumpkin. The closest (and most popular) is Quinn Farms in Îles Perôt.

But if you’re willing to go a bit further, you can get a Halloween filled day at, with pumpkin picking and a corn maze, see a list of their activities here!

Or if you just want to stay on the Island, you can always go to Atwater or Jean Talon Markets in Montreal.

Don’t forget to carve the spookiest pumpkin there is!

P.S. Need A Place To Stay In Montreal? Hotel Recommendations

I love going on staycations at Hotel Nelligan in the Old Port of Montreal. It’s in a great location, walking distance to everywhere you need to be. When you stay there you can’t miss out on their unique roof top terrace above the hotel. See room rates & availability.

I’ve also stayed at the newly built Homewood Suites in Montreal Midtown (west of the city) and I’d highly recommend it if you’re looking for a hotel that isn’t in the city centre. But they also have a branch downtown as well. It has a little kitchenette in every room and breakfast is included. Even though it isn’t downtown, you aren’t far from it. It’s walking distance to the Namur metro station, which will get you downtown in less than 20 minutes. See room rates & availability.

Here are some other alternatives I’ve heard about if you’re looking to stay in Downtown Montreal;

If you’re looking to stay in the heart of Downtown Montreal check out Auberge Les Bons Matins. This is a one of a kind stay perfect for a romantic getaway in Montreal. In this charming inn in Montreal, you’ll get a taste of local life. See room rates & availability.

You can also stay Le Square Phillips Hôtel & Suites if an auberge isn’t your style. Le Square Phillips Hôtel & Suites is in a supreme location in between the orange and the green metro line that get you anywhere else in the city. Breakfast is also included with your stay! See room rates & availability
