How should you store your tea? We’ve all seen the messy drawers and forgotten teas in the scattered at the back of cupboards. The unfortunate part is when you actually have to throw away precious tea because you simply can’t remember when it’s from..
It’s time to change that and keep your tea fresh and organized!
There are a few ways to stay organized, whether you’re using loose leaf tea or tea bags (or both!). I have tea storage suggestions for you based on what has worked for me for my tea organization.
Psst! This blog post contains affiliate links in it which sends me a bit of extra money if you use them… at no extra cost to you!
Tea Storage Containers For Loose Leaf Teas To Stay Fresh
If you’re using loose leaf teas, one of the best ways to store it is to transfer them into airtight containers.
You can leave your loose leaf tea in bags, but that’s not the best way to store tea to stay fresh longer. It’s best to get light blocking, airtight containers for tea.
Sunlight and air can both affect the quality and longevity of the tea leaves over time.
Glass Tea Container: Glass Jar From Adagio
I love these glass jars from AdagioTeas because they’re made with Borosilicate glass which blocks harmful UV rays.
Now you’re able to see what tea is inside (and how much you have left) without harming the quality of the tea!
Airtight Containers For Tea (Best Bulk!)
If you make big orders of your favourite tea (as we all do!), there’s no better airtight container for tea than the Airscape Canister.
It’s perfect for large orders of tea that you need to keep fresh for even longer. As you use your tea, you’re able to press the lid further down to remove any extra air in the container.
Pro Tea Tip: Keep A Mini Teaspoon In Each Container
Have a dedicated tea scoop for each tea that just stays inside each container.
This keeps you from constantly searching for that one teaspoon every time you want to make a cup of tea. I find it also helps my kitchen stay tidier because I don’t have tea scoops laying around waiting to be put away.
Pro Tea Tip: Label Your Tea Containers!
If you transfer your loose leaf tea to airtight containers, even if they’re glass, the best way to stay organized is to label them. I like writing the name of the tea, but also brewing instructions (water temperature, steeping time, amount, even caffeine levels…).
I literally just use a piece of waterproof tape. I write on it with a sharpie, and it comes off without leaving too much of a residue. But of course, you can also invest in a beautiful label to make it actually look nice!

How To Organize Tea Bags
If you also have some tea bags lying around, keep them all organized in one place so you can easily see them all.
Tea Box For Tea Storage
A tea box is my favourite way to organize tea bags. For starters, it keeps all my tea in one place – organized by type.
But a tea box is also a really nice way to showcase your selection of teas when you have guests over – it’s restaurant quality!
New Tea Caddy
If you don’t have enough tea bags to fill up a tea box, this tea caddy is just as cute and portable.
It can also be on display on your counter, with taking up minimal space. Or you can easily hide it away in your cupboard until you want to access it.
How To Store Your Tea In A Cupboard
If you’d rather keep your tea in a cupboard it can still get messy, even if they’re in a box or airtight containers for tea and you can easily forget about teas in the back.
A few strategies I use to stay organized in my tea cupboard is that I separate each self by category. My first shelf will have everyday tea accessories and caffeinated tea options.
My second shelf is all about non caffeinated teas. And finally my third shelf is for random storage and things I don’t use as often (like extra tea tins and to go mugs).
I try not to put anything behind something else unless it’s in a container that I can easily pull out to see everything inside. Otherwise my teas will get lost behind one another… and no one wants that!
Here are some things you can use for tea organization in your cupboard.
Clear Plastic Container
These clear plastic containers are a lifesaver in a my tea cupboard.
I keep loose tea bags in here, tea canisters, and even tea accessories (like strainers).
This way I can put more in my cupboard without losing tea in the back. It makes it really easy to pull out and see what I have.
Easy Access Tea Drawers For Tea Accessories
These tea drawers are perfect for neatly storing loose tea bags, in your cupboard. But you can also fill them up with all the small tea accessories.
Plus, because they’re drawers, they’re supper easy to access the contents.
Fill it up and organize all your tea accessories like teaspoons, tea strainers, empty bags for loose leaf tea, even extra tea bags…etc.
How To Organize Your Tea Drawer
If you have a tea drawer instead of a tea cupboard, it’s just as important to stay organized (I have so much tea and accessories that I actually have both a tea cupboard and drawer!).
Just as you would organized your utensil drawer, organize your tea drawer…
Drawer Divider
The easiest way to keep your tea organized in a drawer is with drawer dividers!
I have one divider – it’s a very small drawer – so end up with two smaller sections instead of one giant one.
This helps keep me a bit more organized. I have some more tea accessories on one side and lids for my mason jars when I want to take tea on the go on the other side!
Drawer Organizer
Drawer organizers are the same idea as the divider, but will be better if you have a bigger drawer.
This way you don’t end up with a large mess of tea and accessories!
Extras For Better Tea Organization
A few extra tea storage ideas to help you stay more organized.
Tea Tracker Printout
A printable tea tracker is the best way to remember what teas you have without taking everything out of your cupboard. You can decide what tea you want before you make a mess!
This is a digital product that you can use on your phone or tablet, or print it out and tape inside your cupboard.
Write down every tea you have, so you only need to look at the printout next time you aren’t sure which tea you’re in the mood for.
