A great souvenir from Belgium to bring back are the bottle caps of the beer you tried and make them into magnets for your fridge.
There’s no denying that Belgium is all about beer – they drink the most beer per capita in any country in the world! So it’s only obvious to bring back a beer related souvenir from Belgium, and there’s nothing more personal that remembering which Belgian beers you’ve tried!
Psst! This blog post contains affiliate links in it which sends me a bit of extra money if you use them… at no extra cost to you!
Why Not Just Bring Back Beer From Belgium
You definitely want to bring something beer-related back from your Belgian vacation. I mean, they have over 3 000 different Belgian beers.
So why not bring back the actual beer? Well, I wouldn’t recommend it, there’s a lot that can go wrong (see what makes a good souvenir). But to keep it simple, beer bottles add a lot of weight to your suitcase, they’re easily breakable, and (obviously) have liquid on the inside.
Needless to say, there’s a high probability of the bottle breaking during transportation and all you’ll be left with are wet belongings and no beer.
Why Bottle Cap Magnets Make A Good Souvenir From Belgium?
Instead, the bottle caps take up very little space in your suitcase and they don’t cost you anything extra. Plus, it’s a great souvenir of the beers you tried while in Belgium.
By turning them into magnets, they become useful and they’re not just dust collectors on a shelf!

Obviously, You Need Bottle Caps From Belgium
If you don’t have the bottle caps, then you won’t be able to make this perfect souvenir from Belgium. So, don’t forget to save these every time you try a new beer in Belgium!
If you’re buying beer from the store, just put the bottle cap in your bag right away after opening. Don’t worry if you’re only trying beer at the local bars, you can ask the bartender to give it to you. I noticed that sometimes they even automatically do it, but to be on the safe side, just ask!
It doesn’t matter where you’re visiting in the country, Brussels, Brugge, or even Ghent. Everyone will have beer bottles!
Hot Glue Gun (with Glue)/Double Sides Tape/Adhesive Magnets
There are a few options for what you can use to stick the magnet to your bottle cap, but I recommend using a hot glue gun (like this one on Amazon).
At first I tried with adhesive magnets and adhesive foam mounts. But if you move the magnets around a lot, glue will last the longest.
Magnets & Padding
No matter whether the magnet is adhesive or not, make sure it fits in the bottle cap. Your best bet will be to buy circular magnets, but you can also buy a big magnet sheet and cut them out yourself.
Sorry to point out the obvious, but bottle caps are concave. If you put the magnet directly inside, it won’t be able to stick anywhere. So you’ll have to buy some sort of foam padding to prop the magnet higher. Like I said, I used sticky foam mounts, but you can use anything you can glue on.
How To Make This Belgian Souvenir?
This is a pretty brainless Belgian souvenir DIY. Glue, or stick the padding to the bottle cap, and then glue or stick the magnet to the padding. It’s as easy as that!
Then place them on your fridge or any magnetic surface and enjoy your timeless souvenir from Belgium!

Bonus! Other Beer-Related Belgium Souvenirs
Bottle cap magnets aren’t the only beer related souvenir you can bring back from Belgium. There are other beer accessories you can buy like bottle openers, coasters, or even beer cozies.
But my all time favourite is the Mannequin Pis bottle opener. Most of the ones you’ll see will be wine openers, so make sure to find the one with the extra beer bottle opener piece.
If you weren’t already aware, the Mannequin Pis is the symbol of Brussels, and yes, it’s a little boy peeing.
