Mont Tremblant Village In The Summer: The Ultimate Guide

Even though Mont Tremblant Village is primarily a ski village in Laurentians Quebec, it’s also the perfect summer destination from Montreal. Tremblant is close enough to Montreal that you can easily visit on a day trip, but there’s also more than enough to do there in the summer if you’re looking for a weekend, or even week long getaway.

I spent all my summer vacations as a kid in Mont Tremblant Village, and still go at least once a summer for an easy trip. From hiking to biking to relaxing by the pool, and enjoying all the unique restaurants! Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Mont Tremblant Village in the summer from what to do (outside and indoors), what weather to expect, where to stay, and even more local tips.

Psst! This blog post contains affiliate links in it which sends me a bit of extra money if you use them… at no extra cost to you!

The Ultimate Guide To Mont Tremblant in the Summer from Montreal #tremblant #daytripmontreal #montrealweekendgetaway #montremblantvillage

Is Summer A Good Time To Visit Mont Tremblant?

A summer visit to Tremblant has some pros and cons, but I think it’s ultimately a good time to visit. It’s a completely different vibe and vacation to visiting in the winter. Instead of skiing and then cozying up indoors, it’s hiking and biking then relaxing by the pool or beach.

Although in the summer you’re battling more inconsistent weather (potential colder temperatures and rain) so it’s a bit of an unpredictable vacation to plan. So you can be be beach bathing one day, to needed a jacket, hat and gloves the next. Not to mention, the bugs in the Laurentians in the summer are TERRIBLE, but at least you might spot some wild deer.

Depending on when you visit in the summer, the village can be more or less crowded too. It will depend on school break and if there’s a festival or event taking place in the village.

When is the BEST Time To Visit Tremblant in the Summer?

For the least crowds, visiting before the Quebec school year arounds (around June 24). And for even less people, visit during the week (Monday to Thursday). Less crowds mean there’s a much easier time finding a free parking spot, getting into restaurants, and activities. But it can also feel a tad deserted…

And the earlier you visit in the summer, the worse weather you risk having. There’s of course no guarantee, but you’re less likely to have warm pool weather at the beginning of June. And if you visiting during the week, certain activities won’t be open (they are weekend-only until around mid June).

P.S. Need a place to stay in Mont Tremblant, check out my hotel recommendations for every budget.

Top Thing To Do In The Summer: Explore the Mountain

One of the main draws for a trip to Mont Tremblant is the mountain itself (Tremblant) in both the winter and the summer. P.S. Mont is mountain in French.

In the winter, it attracts countless skiers and snowboarders to the village. But during the summer months the mountain plays host to countless hiking paths, scenic look outs, and a plethora of family activities both at the base of the mountain and at the top.

behind two large red chairs. A woman is sitting on the left one, with a cup of tea and shes wearing a pink winter hat. She's looking out onto the mountain and lakes that are way below. The sky is overcast, but you can see that it clears up in the distance.
It can be cold in Mont Tremblant in the summer, especially at the top of the mountain!

Go to the Mountain Summit

You can get to the mountain summit one of two ways: hike it, or take the gondola up. Keep in mind, a hike to the top of the mountain is not for the faint of heart and I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners or families, it takes about 2 hours, vs the gondola which takes 12 minutes.

If you are interested in hiking Mont Tremblant, there are hiking paths at the base and the summit for beginners. Alternatively, you can always take the gondola one way and hike the other.

Pro tip: Interested in hiking to the top of Mont Tremblant?
I recommend Grand Brulé (the red path) on the way up Mont Tremblant in the summer. It’s less direct, so it takes longer, but it’s a lot easier (way less steep). Then on the way down, I recommend Caps (the green path). It’s much more direct, so will take you half the time, but it is much steeper and rockier – so be careful! See the map of all the hiking trails around the mountain.

What To Do At The Mountain Summit

On top of incredible views, there are actually a few more activities once you make it to the top of Mont Tremblant. If you’re not completely drained from the hike up the mountain, you can continue your hike on one of the many hiking trails around the top of the mountain.

For an easy hike, walk in a loop on 360 trail, which also has an observation deck halfway through. For a more intense forest hike, you can continue on Les Sommets to a second lookout.

There’s also a Birds of Prey Show that takes place at the summit in the summer! Or perhaps instead of hiking down the mountain, hop on the longest Zipline in Quebec!

And don’t worry about being hungry at the top, there’s a chalet with food, a bathroom, and a place to refill your water bottle, and they even have Wifi!

I’m not actually this short. He’s standing on a rock, I swear…

Activities At The Base Of Mont Tremblant

If you aren’t one for heights, you can also stay at the base of the mountain, there are more than enough activities to do. If you did still want a hike, the beginner trail Ruisseaux (purple path) takes you by a waterfall and the famous Canadian giant red chair. It’s a nice loop that also honestly has the best view of the village below because you’re above it, but still close enough to see all the details.

For a bit more of a challenge, you can hike up Caps (green) trail. It’s quite rocky and steep, but there are two viewpoints that are only halfway up. The first viewpoint is a beautiful waterfall. The second viewpoint is a bit hidden, as the sign us a bit hidden in the trees making it easy to miss (keep an eye on the right of the trail). If you find it, you’ll emerge from the trees to find a magnificent (and probably private) lookout! If you can hike with a picnic lunch, it’s the perfect place to set up lunch with a view!

Over the last few years, Mont Tremblant Village has also put in a few fun family activities, such as the luge, and Tonga Lumina for some nighttime fun with the family! A ticket for either activity includes a chair lift ride halfway up the mountain, so there’s no need to hike up!

And now they’ve just recently added summer skiing and summer tubing using a synthetic sliding mat. The summer skiing seems like a good way to dip your feet in the sport, see if you want to attempt winter skiing. And they also offer beginner lessons!

Other Outdoor Summertime Activities In Tremblant

The summer activities in Mont Tremblant Village don’t just stop at the mountain! There’s something for everyone in the village, whether you’re very active or the sit by the pool type.

An easy way to get around the village is to ride the Cabriolet in Tremblant. The Cabriolet is a free chair lift that brings you from the bottom to the top of the village (or vice versa). On top of it being a super practical way to get around Mont Tremblant Village, it’s also an exhilarating ride with an overhead view of the entire village… if you can bear to look down!

You also have to make a point to find and walk around Mirror Lake. It’s just off the main path in the pedestrian village, but it’s easy to miss. It’s a short walk around the manmade lake, but it’s so calm and peaceful.

Relax At The Beach

A trip to Mont Tremblant in the summer is not complete without a trip to the beach. There are many beaches you can visit in and around Mont Tremblant Village. The closest beach to the Village is Parc Plage, it’s a small public beach that you can walk to. But due to it’s proximity, it’s usually the most packed beach also (p.s. depending on the hotel you’re staying at in Tremblant, it might include free access to Parc Plage)…

If you’re willing to leave the resort town, there are a few other beach options. My family favourite was Lac Monroe in the Mont Tremblant National Park (you can also rent canoes and kayaks here!). But it’s a good 45 minute drive from the Village.

So another (closer) option is Lac Mercier in Old Tremblant Village. It’s a smaller beach, but it’s only about a 10 minute drive outside the resort town (or a 1 hour walk, or a 30 minute bike ride). There is a small town here with food and drink options.

a relaxing view of lac mercier in old tremblant village. Large rocks line the bottom before reaching the green grass, sand, and finally the lake. A large leafy tree looms above, covering the top half of the photo, and proving shade to the tourists below.

Go Golfing In Mont Tremblant (Mini Putt counts too!)

If you aren’t in the mood for water activities, you can opt to play a round of golf. There are a few golf courses just outside Mont Tremblant Village like Le Géant and Le Diable

But if you’re not a golf pro (like myself), there’s a mini-putt course in the village for us rookies at Le Petit Géant.

Biking Around Mont Tremblant Village

If you’re visiting Mont Tremblant in the summer, you’ll want to make sure to bring your bike, or you can rent one in the village too.

My all time favourite bike path might is La-Villageoise-de-Mont-Tremblant. It’s an all paved bike path with a lot of hills that goes in a loop through the forest (about 30 minutes). If you’re feeling up for a bit of a longer bike, you can take the path all the way Old Tremblant Village.

In Old Tremblant Village, you can stop for lunch or a coffee, sit on the beach, or continue biking on the P’tit Train du Nord bike path. Le P’tit Train du Nord is actually part of the old train route that went from Montreal to the Laurention villages (like Tremblant). Now it’s a mostly flat paved bike path going through the Laurentians. P.S. See more beginner bike paths near Montreal!

Things To Do In Mont Tremblant In Case Of Rain

While summer in Mont Tremblant is an outdoor lovers haven, mother nature isn’t always on our side and it can most definitely be raining during your visit. Thankfully, there are still some indoor activities to enjoy!

There’s a small movie theaterlaser tag, an Escape Room, or go to the virtual reality arcade. For the more artsy, head to Le Studio Creatif for a relaxing afternoon painting some personalized ceramic keepsakes.

Shopping in Tremblant

A rainy day can also be a shopping day in Tremblant. The streets are lined with boutique and outdoor equipment shops. There aren’t too many of them, and they’re quite small, but they’ll do nicely if you need to kill a bit of time (or if you forgot anything at home!).

For the most part, the stores are unique to the village, so you won’t find them back in Montreal either. Make sure and go to Roots and buy some classic Roots sweatpants, the true Canadian cozy outfit!

roots-tremblant-summer-montreal

Have Fun At The Indoor AquaClub

In the heart of the village is Brind’O Aquaclub, an indoor swimming pool. But it’s more than just a simple pool, there are slides and water games to play. I’ll admit, when we used to plan family summer trips to Mont Tremblant Village, I would pray for at least one day of rain just to visit the indoor swimming pool. If the indoor swimming pool with water slides isn’t your scene, there’s a hot tub, and fitness centre.

And in case the weather clears up, there’s also an outdoor pool. Brind’O Aquaclub is also a good option if you come up for the day and don’t have a hotel pool to enjoy. Now you can relax here after hiking up Mont Tremblant!

Relax At A Spa

The other option if you’re more for a relaxing day is to go to a spa. The Fairmont and Westin hotels in Tremblant have their own spa, where you can sign up for pedicures, facials, or deep tissues massages..

Or if you’d prefer a Scandinavian Spa with thermal baths, there’s one about a 5 minutes drive outside the village.

Attractions Near Mont Tremblant Village

Some summer Tremblant activities are just outside the village, you’ll need a car to reach them, but they’re worth it!

Old Mont Tremblant

Old Mont Tremblant Village is exactly what it sounds like, it’s the old village. Old Mont Tremblant isn’t very large, it’s only about one block of restaurants, but it’s a nice change of scenery (and restaurant options) from the village.

As I mentioned, you have access to the P’tit Train du Nord path to bike and walk along as well as Lac Mercier beach in Old Tremblant.

You can drive here it’s about 10 minutes away but you can also bike (or walk) La-Villageoise-de-Mont-Tremblant to get here. Mont Tremblant even offers a free bus in the summer, going from the “new” village to the “old” Village.

tremblant-ptit-train-du-nord-bike-path

Tremblant National Park

If you’re up for a bit of a longer drive, about 45 minutes away is Tremblant National Park. This offers a TON more outdoor adventures for you to explore in the summer. Mont Tremblant National Park is huge though, there are actually three sections to the park! From the Village, the closest section is Le Diable.

One of the most popular hikes is La Roche, about a 2 hour loop with a view at the top. La Roche is quite uphill, so for an easier path to the same lookout, you can hike up La Corniche.

If you have your bike, La Boucle-des-Chutes-Croches brings you around Lac Monroe through the forests and leads you to a water fall. It isn’t the easiest ride though with a lot of hills and a gravel and sandy path.

And of course, at the end of a busy day, relax on Lac Monroe beach. If you’re up for it, you can also do some water activities once you’re here. They rent canoes, kayaks, and more!

P.S. See more Quebec National Parks near Montreal.

Pro tip: I recommend driving straight to the Lac Monroe Discovery centre (about 10 minutes even after you’ve entered the park). The Discovery Centre is always a good starting point for a day at the National Park. There’s parking here, an information centre for any questions, clean facilities to use (not outhouse!), and a water fountain.
If you don’t have a car, you can book an organized tour with transportation from Mont Tremblant through Dtour.

Where To Eat In During the Summer in Mont Tremblant?

Mont Tremblant Village is all about the unique restaurant experience. That means you won’t find many chain restaurants here (well at least you used to not be able to… don’t bother eating at Lucilles in Tremblant, it’s a Montreal chain, Cafe Columbus is also a chain but they are still a convenient cafe to pick up lunch to go!).

There are a limited number of restaurants in Tremblant for the amount of people visiting, so expect to wait in line. And most restaurants don’t take reservations. So, or go for an early dinner!).

Just like summers in Montreal, it’s all about sitting on the terrace in Tremblant to enjoy that warm weather. So if the weather is nice, be sure to ask for a seat on the patio! You can try to go for dinner earlier, but this is a family destination too so it’s really always busy.

Heads up! Your bill might be a bit higher than you initially expected when dining in Mont Tremblant. On top of Canadian and Québec tax, there’s an additional 15% resort tax that’s tacked on every bill.

a delicious looking savoury crepe, that looks more like an omelette. There's a white sauce with a tomato on top. Its on a wooden table. Blurred in the background is a wait staff with her back to the camera, shes all in black but her t shirt clearly has the logo and it says Crepe

Where to Eat Breakfast

The best breakfast spot in Mont Tremblant is the La maison de la crêpe. I have to admit though, it took me 25 years to actually eat here because I never wanted to wait the line. But let me tell you, the wait was worth it! They serve an array of sweet and savoury crepes, and they don’t hold back on toppings! To avoid the lines, try to get there for when they open.

Alternatively, my classic breakfast in Tremblant is actually a simple peanut butter sandwich. I bring up a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter, along with paper plates and knives to make my own breakfast in the hotel. It’s quick, easy, and cheap. Plus this gives me a quicker start to my day.

Lunch & Dinner Favourites

A classic summer dining experience is Le Diablo, a brewpub in the centre of the village with a nice outdoor patio. It’s the perfect spot to relax with a nice cold beer (or a flight of beers to try)! Plus, they serve delicious burgers. Order a flight at Le Diable and score each bear with my printable microbrew taster sheet.

But my all time favourite is Pizzateria, with its good old classic Italian food. They also have a really nice outdoor terrace to sit on in the middle of the Village.

a large squared thin crust pizza that's loaded with vegetables and cheese on top taking up the bottom third of the image. In the background, blurred, is the restaurant with empty tables and chairs, and an awning shielding the terrace from the beating sun.

Must-Try Canadian Delicacies In Mont Tremblant Village

One of the must-try foods while visiting is, of course, a Beaver Tail from Beavertails (or Queues de Castor, as we call it in Quebec!). A Beaver Tail is like a flattened donut with your choice of toppings. I always go with the classic hazelnut spread (Hazel Amour)!

P.S. If you’re vegetarian and want to try a traditional Quebec poutine while visiting Tremblant, BeaverTails makes a vegetarian gravy (and it’s delicious!).

Another Québec classic you can try in the Village is Tire sur la Neige (Maple Taffy). Tremblant is one of the few places that you can get this classic Canadian dessert in the summer. Head to the Cabanes a Sucre, they have some snow set up outside all year round.

P.S. If you’re visiting Montreal, see all the top foods to try in the city, as per a locals recommendation (i.e. my recommendation!).

Buying Groceries & Snacks In Tremblant

If you want to pick up a quick snack, or maybe some more water, there’s a general store in the centre of town. They have everything from food, drinks, pre-made meals to reheat, and even some pharmaceuticals (in case you forgot to pack any!).

The general store is on the pricey side, so if you are heading up for the weekend, I recommend stopping at one of the groceries stores on the way (about 15 minutes from the village). There’s an IGA, Maxi, and Super C. And this way, you don’t have to risk spoiling your food in a hot car on the drive up.

What To Do At Night In Mont Tremblant Village In The Summer?

There’s no shortage of bars that you can spend the evening at in Tremblant in the summer. As I said, there’s Le Diable, but there’s also Bullseye at the top of the hill!

If clubs are more your style though, Tremblant has you covered, this is the Montreal crowd we”re talking about after all! So sure enough, there are actually two clubs you can party all night at: Le Petit Caribou and Bar Café D’Époque.

Don’t worry about it being empty either. They’re both PACKED, especially on the weekend! Tremblant is the go-to destination for bachelor and bachelorette parties in the summer. It’s also the main hangout for camp counsellors on their day off from the surrounding sleep away camps. So, let’s just say, it becomes pretty lively at night, especially on the weekends.

You can also make your way to the Mont Tremblant Village Casino. It’s outside the village, but there’s a free shuttle that will take you there.

If you’re visiting en famille, there’s also the nighttime hike Tonga Lumina as well.

tonga-lumina-tremblant-in-the-summer

Mont Tremblant Village Summer Festivals

Tremblant is no stranger to the summer festival scene that Montrealers know and love as well.

The Village hosts different musical and sports events all summer long. In fact, it’s odd to have a quiet weekend in Tremblant in the summer. My favourite is Tremblant International Blues Fest for 2 weeks every July.

Keep in mind, these festivals will make the village even busier than it already is. It’s always nice to have live music and different events, but it definitely comes at a cost. See a list of the festivals to see what’s happening when you’re visiting.

resort-town-summer-festivals-tremblant

What’s The Deal With Parking At Mont Tremblant?

If you’re staying at a hotel, they’ll most likely have valet parking (paid, of course). Otherwise there are several parking lots around the Village. P.S. You are allowed to park in these overnight if you want to avoid paying for valet at your hotel!

There’s a combination of free and paid public parking throughout the village. The paid lots are along Chemin de la Chapelle, which is much closer to the village and will often have space. The free lots are farther and will fill up quicker.

The closest free lot is at the bottom of the village. Watch out though because it’s a double lot, the front lot is paid valet, and the back is the free lot. The free lot typically fills up quickly in the summer, and can become paid if there’s a festival during your visit.

If you drive farther from the village along Chemin Duplessis, there are two more free lots (P2 and P3). You are quite the distance from the village, but there is a free shuttle service that will bring you back to the village. The shuttles come every 10 minutes.

The Free Mont Tremblant Village Shuttle

There are four other free shuttle lines that are available to anyone visiting the Village. The shuttles stop at all the parking lots throughout the Village and will take you to the surrounding lodging areas. For example, there’s one to take you to Domaine du Geant, Domaine de la Foret, Domaine Nansen, and Boeralis/ Pure Tremblant/ Pinacle.

There’s also a shuttle that will take you up to the Mont Tremblant Casino.

Where To Stay In Mont Tremblant In The Summer

There are TONs of options for accommodations while visiting Mont Tremblant Village in the summer. Not only is the Village itself filled with hotels, but there are also places to stay just outside.

The hotels within the village are pricier as you’re paying a premium for the location. Sometimes these hotels will also include activity packages in their price though, so make sure to see what’s included before you book.

If you’re looking to stay outside the village, it’s definitely a bit calmer, especially at night. You’ll want to look for one that offers a free shuttle service to the Village for easy transportation. This way you won’t have to move your car and look for parking when you do want to visit the Village.

See my full list of recommended hotels in Mont Tremblant.

Le Manoir Condos

Stay At the Homewood Suites Tremblant

The Homewood Suites is at the top of the hill overlooking the main square. Sometimes there are events taking place in this square with live music. If you get a room overlooking the square, you’ll be able to watch any event taking place without dealing with the crowds! You really feel like you’re in the heart of the action when you stay here!

The rooms at the Homewood Suites are quite large as well, some of them are on two levels even! They also give you a full kitchen which is a nice bonus. You don’t ever feel like you’re in a box at the Homewood Suites, like in most hotel rooms.

They also offer complimentary breakfast! See room rates and availability.

Stay At the Manoir Condos

The Manoir Condos is an example of an accommodation that’s outside Mont Tremblant Village, and it’s probably one of my favourite places to stay when I’m visiting. It’s still in a pretty prime location in my mind, only a 3 minute drive up Chemin des Voyageur to the Village. But if you don’t want to drive, you can take the free shuttle or even walk!

The Manoir Condos are their own private condos, so it’s perfect for families. There are different room sizes and styles to choose from, but they typically come with a full kitchen as well. I also love the pool here! It’s on three levels, it’s very private, and you really feel like you’re living in the country at the Manoir.

See room rates and availability

Stay At The Fairmont Mont Tremblant

The Fairmont is at the top of the hill (in arguably one of the best locations). With the mountain to its left, it’s more private than some of the other locations in the village. I tend to find the rooms at any Fairmont quite small, and these are no exception. But, it is a Fairmont after all, so you’re met with top quality service. Check availability and room rates.

Psst! Want a really nice Tremblant accommodation? My parents swear by the Quintessence, but it’s just a wee bit out of my price range for now!

What Weather To Expect In Mont Tremblant In The Summer?

The weather in Mont Tremblant Village in the summer is similar to Montreal but typically colder (because now you’re about 2 hours north of the city!). The hottest months will be July and August.

The main different about the weather in Mont Tremblant Village vs. Montreal in the summer is that it REALLY cools down at night. There’s a lot less humidity in the Laurentian mountains so it doesn’t stay as hot overnight. The mornings can also be quite cool (depending on how early you wake up!). And if you’re planning on going to the top of Mont Tremblant, except it to be a few degrees colder up there.

So, you really want to make sure to pack some warmer clothes too, which brings me to my next topic…

What To Pack For A Summer Vacation To Tremblant?

When going on a trip to Tremblant in the summer, you’ll want to pack a variety of clothes. As I mentioned, the temperature can really cool down overnight in the mountains. So along with your summer classics, like shorts and a bathing suit, make sure to pack a few warmer items as well, like pants, a warm sweater (or even jacket – I love bringing my packable puffer for just in case!). Sometimes I even throw in a light hat too!

And don’t forget to pack the appropriate attire for any outdoor activities you’re interested in – like the proper biking, hiking, or pool attire! You’ll also want to bring some bug spray with you – if you think the bugs are bad in Montreal… just wait until you’re in the mountains!

I always pack a book to read and even some travel games to play with whomever I’m traveling with. These add an additional way to pass the time if the weather isn’t so great, or also some entertainment at the pool or beach!

Needless to say, you have to pack A LOT of options for even a summer trip to Tremblant. Stay organized, and don’t forget a thing with my printable packing template.

And Don’t Forget To Sit On The Fat Mardis Giant Chair!

Make sure you don’t leave Mont Tremblant Village without taking a picture on the oversized chair in front of Fat Mardis! We have a picture from every year we visited, starting from when I was probably five!

The original chair is wood and it’s from Fat Mardis restaurant in the main square. Now they’ve also placed one just a short walk up the mountain (with a gorgeous view of the village in the background!). But the Fat Mardis chair is still a right of passage when visiting Mont Tremblant Village!

I am planning to go this weekend. where is cheaper and good place to stay one night and do explore to this beautiful village just one day?

Meghan

Monday 16th of August 2021

Hi Meha, If you're just staying the night I would stay in the village to make the most of your time there, I'd recommend the Homewood Suites. I loved staying there, provide breakfast (which is always useful) and is in the heart of the town and typically has more reasonable rates.
