There’s nothing better than a refreshing iced matcha drinks to cool down and energy in the summer. And matcha blended with ice to create a delicious frozen matcha slushy is no exception!
I was inspired to make a blended matcha slushy by Tim Horton’s Iced Capps (my fellow Canadian’s will know what I’m talking about!). I thought, we have a frozen coffee and even frozen hot chocolate, so why can’t we have a frozen matcha drink!?
In the end, this recipe reminds me a lot of a Starbuck’s Green Tea Frappuccino, except without all the added sugar! This matcha frappuccino recipe is so simple, but you will need a blender to make it.

Ingredients To Make A Frozen Matcha Slushy?
- 2 cups of ice
- 3/4 cup milk (you can swap it for any milk alternative of your choice)
- Secret Ingredient: 1/4 tsp vanilla (this is what gives it that delicious taste!)
- 1 tsp matcha
This recipe makes four cups of delicious blended matcha slushie! I’m able to separate it into two mason jars to enjoy with company (or if I’m greedy, I’ll keep it all for myself!).
What Matcha Should You Use?
There are a lot of different qualities of matcha on the market. The top quality (and the most expensive) is ceremonial grade meant to be enjoyed on its own.
Because you are blending the matcha with milk and vanilla, you should be using a culinary grade, which is quite a bit cheaper.
Tealyra offers several grades of matcha. They don’t merely have two options (ceremonial and culinary) so you’re able to buy something in the middle based on your price range.

I wasn’t joking when I said this is the easiest recipe you’ll ever make! All you need to do is measure out all your ingredients and combine them in the blender…. and blend!
I recommend blending on low until the ice is crushed into small pieces, pulsing a few times in the middle. You can opt to add in the ice as you go, to better control the thickness of the slushy you want. My blender doesn’t react well to me adding in more ice after the fact, so I like adding it in all at once!
What Do I Do? The Ice Keeps Separating!
Don’t worry! This is totally normal, ice is heavier than liquid, so eventually (if you don’t drink it fast enough), it’s going to start separating. It’s the same reason icebergs float, and why you end up with plain ice at the end of your slushy.
All the good liquid is at the bottom, leaving the ice at the top.
