How To Make Iced Matcha Lemonade With A Raspberry Twist

I lOVE a good refreshing raspberry lemonade on a hot summer day, so I thought why not add some matcha to it?

Spoiler alert: I did, and it’s absolutely delicious!

The tang of the raspberry, mixed with the acidity of the lemon, is all grounded nicely together by the slightly bitter matcha. Plus, the matcha gives you some caffeine for a nice energy boost.The flavours are all somehow perfectly balanced.

Ice matcha lemonade with raspberry is the ultimate summer drink to relax with and cool off on your patio (by the pool if possible!). Here’s how to make it at home!

What You’ll Need To Make The Perfect Raspberry Matcha Lemonade

You don’t need any special matcha making tools (like a bamboo whisk!) for this matcha tea recipe!

Instead, I recommend using a simple mason jar, like this one on Amazon. You can shake up your matcha, and drink it out of the same glass!

If you’re taking it to go, switch out the classic mason jar lid for one of these from Amazon.

I also suggest having a mini strainer on hand, like this one from Amazon.

The strainer is a must-have for any matcha tea recipe. But for this recipe, it actually comes in handy twice!

First, it really helps separate the matcha powder, and prevents it from clumping.

But I also use the strainer when squeezing my lemon to avoid any seeds in my lemonade. P.S. It works for raspberries too if you aren’t a fan of leftover raspberry chunks in your drink.

What Kind Of Matcha Should You Use?

You can get away with using a lower quality grade matcha because you’re mixing it with other ingredients (like lemon and raspberry). 

I really like this one from Tealyra, which isn’t the lowest culinary grade, but it’s meant for blending in drinks and cooking. Plus it’s reasonably priced! And honestly, I think it’s even good enough to drink on it’s own too!

The Perfect Iced Matcha Lemonade Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 1/4 tsp matcha
  • A handful frozen raspberries
  • 1/4 of a fresh lemon (use more if it’s not a very juicy lemon!)

Directions

  1. Strain 1/4 tsp matcha powder into a mason jar or glass.
  2. Fill glass with 1 1/2 cups water
  3. Shake, or whisk matcha until well combined and dissolved.
  4. Squeeze lemon juice from a 1/4 of a lemon.
  5. Squeeze raspberries and add to drink.
  6. Mix, add ice cubes, and enjoy!

Matcha Tea Recipe Tips

Adding More Matcha

You can add more matcha if you want more of a caffeine boost and matcha flavour.

The more you add though, the darker, and more brown, the colour becomes. Which isn’t the most pleasant to look at.

If you add too much matcha, the matcha flavour will dominate the drink as well. But play around to see your favourite balance.

For Sweeter Iced Matcha Recipe

I prefer my iced matcha drinks a bit tangy and sour, but you can easily add a sweetener of your choice.

Since it’s an iced drink, I recommend a liquid sweetener as raw sugar won’t dissolve. I love the combination of honey and matcha, but you can also add maple or agave syrup as your sweetener of choice.

Detailed Matcha Tea Recipe Directions

Using a strainer, sift 1/4 teaspoon of matcha into a mason jar.

Next, add 1 1/2 cups of cold water, cover the mason jar with the lid, and shake until frother and fully combined.

When the matcha is well mixed, add the rest of your ingredients.

Using a strainer again, squeeze 1/4 of a lemon and add frozen raspberries. I like stirring it all with a spoon and squishing the raspberries in the glass (you can also use the strainer).

For the final step, all you have to do is fill up your cup with ice! Voila! Raspberry matcha lemonade, delicious and ready to drink.

Option: Let It Sit Overnight

The longer you let your matcha lemonade sit, the more flavours will be extracted.

Even after letting it sit for only an hour, I find the raspberry flavour becomes a lot more prominent than if I drink it straight away.

If you wanted a stronger raspberry flavour, let it sit for a bit to let the raspberries defrost more.
