Bodum Chambord Teapot Review: Is It The Teatpot For You?

The Bodum Chambord Teapot is a mixed bag for me. It has some great qualities as a teapot to steep loose leaf tea, but it lacks in others. Bodum sells this teapot in two sizes (34 oz and 44 oz) and makes it either out of plastic or chrome.

I have the larger 44 oz pot with a copper chrome finish. But, I imagine its plastic and smaller counterpoint won’t be that different. So, is the Bodum Chambord Teapot the teapot for you?

Psst! This blog post contains affiliate links in it which sends me a bit of extra money if you use them… at no extra cost to you!

Why I Bought The Bodum Chambord Teapot?

I bought this teapot for several reasons… I first stumbled upon this teapot while I was on the look out for a larger teapot, all my other ones serve a maximum of 2 people. Then, once I saw it, I fell in love with the sleek modern design. It was so different from all the more classic ceramic teapots that I’m used to.

As a bonus, it comes in copper – which I love. I already owned a copper cocktail shaker and a copper Bodum French Press (like this one on Amazon). It was a match made in heaven!

It’s also made by Bodum, which I trust as a brand having already used many of their French Presses.

What I Like About the Bodum Chambord Teapot

I Love The Larger Size

The Bodum Chambord Teapot comes in two sizes, a 34 oz (1.0 L) and 44 oz (1.3 L). The difference is a bit over one cup, my 44 oz teapot will fill 4 larger cups nicely.

This is my go-to pot when I’m hosting. It’s perfect for making one larger pot of tea to serve to guests.

It Keeps My Tea Hot

It keeps the heat pretty well,  lasting about an hour. I also like to put my tea cozy over it (like this one on Amazon) which fits perfectly and keeps it even hotter.

But let’s be real, I’m never able to keep my tea sitting there for that long anyway.

But It Also Keeps It Cold!

I only recently realized the full extent of the Bodum Chambord’s potential. Not only is it great at keeping my tea hot, but it’s also quite practical for making iced teas as well!

Now, this is no longer just a one dimensional tea pot. The large lid actually comes in handy because you have no issues adding ice cubes to your tea!

Bodum Teapot Review: Why I Like The It A Little Less…

Issues With The Steeper

Whoever made this strainer, obviously never tried it to see how it actually works. At a high level, the strainer does its job to properly – it steeps tea. You get full flavour without tea leaves escaping into your water.

But, they placed a thin metal bar in the middle of it, I assume to be able to lift it out of the pot. I NEVER use it for this purpose simply because I’m not able to… The strainer clips to the inside of the glass very tightly, you would never be able to pull it out using the metal bar. It also gets very hot after steeping tea so you have to wait a bit before you can even touch it.

In fact, more often than not, it just gets in the way. It makes cleaning after every use such a pain.

I also find tea is constantly getting stuck in the actual steeper. I can never fully get all of it out after every use.

Poor Pour Ability – Teapot Review

I know a lot of teapots struggle with this feature even though it’s pretty much the only thing they’re built for… pouring tea. The Bodum Chambord teapot has a wide and short spout, which I never thought about before. But now I know why most teapots have a long and narrow spout.

With a wide and narrow spout, you have to give the pot quite a big tilt to pour your tea. I find the water doesn’t come out nicely at all. Rather, if you’re not careful, the water will splash back up, or worse, spill out entirely. It can be a total mess!

To make matters worse, you also have to align the lid opening to the spout. If you forget to align it before pouring, it will only end pourly for you…

If you don’t use this pot often enough, it’s easy to forget about this sneaky attribute. I’ve made this mistake more than once unfortunately.

My tea party guests have actually tried to use it themselves to pour tea just to make a total mess on my table and floors. They’ve left feeling awful! It just doesn’t pour like you’d expect so it takes a lot of practice and precision. I like to think that I’ve mastered it by now.

Moral of the story though, I don’t let my guests pour their own tea anymore with this Bodum teapot!

And The Lid Design Just Gets Worse…

The chrome material they use for the lid gets SOOO HOT. Even though it’s lined with plastic underneath it takes in so much of the heat from the boiling water.

You wouldn’t think this is really a big issue… but it is. I’ve never realized how often I actually touch my teapot lid until it burns my fingers.

Imagine when you’re at the end of the pot and you try to hold the lid in place, you better think twice. Or even when you want to take it off to refill with more hot water, you might want to use oven mitts to do that!

Okay, so maybe I’m exaggerating just a wee bit, but still. Did no one test this product with hot water? The plastic bodum chambord teapot (like this one on Amazon) might not have this issue, I’d expect it to not get as hot as the chrome.

What About The Price?

You can pick up a chrome Bodum Chambord Teapot for $50 CAD, or $30 will get you the plastic one.

With some of the faults it seems like you’re paying for just the brand name at times and the design (which is faulty).

But It Matches My Copper Set Perfectly

The copper colour was the main selling point for me. I already have the Bodum Coffee Press in copper (and love it) and a copper cocktail shaker, so it was kind of a no brainer.

I will say, the copper is spot on and matches everything perfectly.
